Hello Marie L. Greenwood Families,
I am writing to alert you that our schools heating, and water systems have been restored. We will be fully operational on Friday, February 18. We look forward to welcoming our in-person students on Friday to the building.
I do want to provide you some details as to the situation this morning, so you are aware of the timeline for our decision to cancel in-person learning.
This morning between 6:30 – 7:00am, our facility team noticed that our heating & hot water systems were not fully operational. Our DPS Maintenance Department was alerted immediately, and they immediately began the process of coming to our school to assess the situation.
Due to the temperature being unsatisfactory for students at the time I arrived to the building, and knowing it would take time to rise to an acceptable temperature (even if fixed by 8:00am), the decision was made at 7:00 – 7:15am to cancel in-person learning. We also know that due to our COVID-19 safety protocols, we have our student wash their hands regularly throughout the day so we need warm water to do this as well.
While it is our pursuit to offer the best possible education for students, we know that having students remain in building for a few hours while it warms is not ideal or in the best interest of a child’s well-being.
We attempted to get messaging out as soon as possible to families knowing that the sudden change of schedule can be extremely challenging due to work schedules, and childcare needs. We began sending communication out to families & staff beginning at 7:20 via email, text, while our robocall came shortly afterwards.
We are sorry for the inconvenience that this situation caused this morning.
However, it was not something that we could have avoided. We appreciate your patience, and also thank you for being in this with us as we navigate these challenging times.
We are Marie L. Greenwood!
