Latest Update: Nov 30 – Dec 18 Learning

Posted November 19, 2020

Hello Marie L. Greenwood Families,

I hope that you, and your family are well during these challenging times.

Recently, Denver Public Schools joined several other school districts across the Front Range in shifting all schooling back to remote learning through January 5.

This recent decision will impact Marie L. Greenwood as we too will be shifting all of our learning to remote learning. For Kinder – 2nd grade students who receive in-person instruction currently, remote learning will officially begin on Monday, November 30. Unfortunately, we will not be offering in-person learning.

I ask that you join me in celebrating the work of our Marie L. Greenwood staff as they have successfully navigated supporting both in-person and virtual learning these past three months. It’s our sincere hope that we can return to offering in-person learning soon.

In this full shift to remote learning, all classroom rosters will remain the same, and our teaching schedules will also remain the same for all grades. All learning will take place on your child’s computer daily.

I am writing to ask that you continue to support your child by making sure that they are present every single day of the week. We have lost so many opportunities for learning due to this pandemic, and it is extremely important that he/she is engaged in learning daily.

Currently, 88% of our students are engaged daily in live instruction, and have satisfactory attendance. This is a tremendous accomplishment and testimate to all that you have been doing to encourage your child to sign on daily for learning. We know that this is challenging considering you too are extremely busy. For this we say thank you!

While many students are engaged daily, our attendance percentage also shows that 12% of our students are not engaging in learning daily. Sadly, this means that these students potentially will fall further behind academically.

As a community let’s come together and encourage all of our students, and neighbors to engage in learning daily regardless of which school they attend. We all know that education is the key to unlocking so many opportunities for our young ones. We cannot let this pandemic win.

I highly encourage all of our families to schedule all appointments or vacations outside of the learning day. And if you feel the need to travel, ensure that your child has his/her computer with them and an Internet signal to access live daily instruction throughout the day.

Being present online everyday is extremely important!

We also will continue to track the academic progress of all students.

In January, we will be sending mid-year progress reports for all students via mail that will show you your child’s current reading level progress over the year, their attendance for all classes, and provide information on whether or not your child is on track to be promoted to the next grade for the following year or is being considered for retention.

We hope that you and your family enjoy Thanksgiving next week. We know that Thanksgiving will look different for so many. However, let’s be mindful that the essence of Thanksgiving, giving thanks to others, can always be something that we continue to radiate!

Sincerely,

Blake Hammond
