Return To In-Person Learning For Kinder & 1st Grade

Posted September 15, 2020

Dear Marie L. Greenwood Families,

Last week, DPS announced we will begin to gradually welcome back our kindergarten and first-grade students in-person beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29. Our school has been collaborating with the district and working hard to develop health procedures and protocols to welcome our students back into their classrooms safely.

The first day of school for MLG Kindergarten & First Grade students who wish to return in-person will be Tuesday, September 29. More information about our Phase II return of grade 2nd – 8th grade will be shared with families as they’re available. As a reminder, any K-12 student who has been enrolled in the virtual program will continue learning from home through at least December 2020 and will be taught by a teacher from our school or a similar, nearby program.

We know you have questions as we get ready to welcome our young learners who are choosing to return in-person, including about what the classroom will look like. Here are a few updates:

  • Virtual/ In-Person Learning – To offer the virtual and in-person option, MLG will collaborate with other schools in our region to serve the online portion of learning. In some cases for our elementary, our virtual students will either have the same teacher through “live streaming” or receive instruction from another qualified teacher. For Middle school, our students will have the same teachers that they currently are receiving instruction from both virtual and in-person learning.
  • School Hours For In-Person Learning – Our school hours have been altered as a District to maximize busing availability for students. Our school hours for students will be from 8:10am through 2:30pm daily. For Middle school, virtual learning and in-person learning will adopt the same school hours.
  • Enhanced Safety Precautions – We are implementing the highest standards of safety protocols for in-person learning. This will include frequent handwashing, masks worn by all students and staff, adopting social distancing guidelines, limited movement throughout the building, frequent temperature checks, and adopting of a “cohort model” that will minimize interactions with others.
  • Limiting Building Access – To ensure these safety protocols, no adults will be permitted into the building except for our staff members who facilitate learning. Our staff will only remain with the cohort of students that they serve.

Marie L. Greenwood will be hosting a virtual community meeting for Kinder & 1st Grade Parents to answer any questions that you might have in regard to our Phase II return to school plans. This meeting will take place virtually on Tuesday, September 22 at 5:30 in both English & Spanish.

If you haven’t already, please be sure to complete the Annual Family Update, including selecting your preferred learning option for your child, whether that’s a virtual program or as much in-person learning as health conditions permit. Please visit myportal.dpsk12.org to complete the Annual Family Update, or call our school. If you already completed Annual Family Update last spring, please let us know your plans to return in-person for the school year by completing the “Learning Option Change Form” found on the homepage of the Parent Portal. Families will need to commit to their preferred learning option by the end of the day on Friday, Sept. 18. If you have any questions about Annual Family Update, please reach out to Enrollment Services at 720-423-3493 or schoolchoice@dpsk12.org.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding during these unusual times. Please reach out if you have additional questions or if there’s anything we can do to support. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school soon!

Sincerely,

Blake Hammond
